I know several teachers cringe when they see multiple choice assessments and tools. I do too! I've never been a fan of worksheets or one right answer.
So why would I want to use a multiple choice clicker in 2014? I believe they can be used for quick and spontaneous formative assessments throughout the day. Here are just a few examples:
The most important thing to do is use the formative assessment for change. They can inform you to make a change in your small groups, pull a student 1:1, or change the instructional method being used, all with colorful charts and data! ** If you ARE using Activotes for simple multiple choice quizzes, that's okay. Don't forget it isn't always about the answer. After any quick vote, remember to TALK! One button doesn't say it all, so lead into discussions. Have students defend their answers, whether they are right or wrong. If you have time match opposing students up together and have them "argue" until they both decide on one answer. Studies show more times than not, the person with the right answer will be able to "prove" it and the person with the wrong answer will gain understanding. Plus, it is a new perspective and not just the teacher saying the right answer. Here's a quick video about Activotes from Promethean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoXN4iiF6uc |
